I know this isn't the most proper forum for bringing this up, and I don't
usually complain about this kind of thing (I figure it's part of the price
we pay for working with computers--go figure, I'm a masochist), but has
anyone tried the new Mac Pac with a Palm III? When I HotSync, at the end of
the HotSync message, I get a Reset dialog. I reset, and the Palm III goes
into an infinite loop displaying the Welcome to Palm III screen.
This happens if I cold start, erase all data, and Hotsync, or cold restart
without HotSyncing and not erasing all data. You can't even do two cold
starts in a row - the second one doesn't take. I have to pull the
batteries. The only time it ever worked was on my first HotSync, when it
backed up all my data for the first time.
Whatever the reason for the the problem, all I can say is the folks at Palm
ought to be _really_ embarassed about releasing something like this. The QA
strikes me a pathetic. Essentially, my Palm III has been rendedered useless
with all but the built-in apps and with none of my saved data.
And no, I didn't have a previous of HotSync for the Mac on my system before
using the new Mac Pack. I had deleted it, so that's not the problem as far
as I can tell. Back to Palm Buddy. Thanks Florent for a good, working piece
of essential software.

Steve Mann
