While surfing I found out about a program named that had "Palm" as the
beginning of its name, e.g. something like PalmFrozz (Frozz is not the
actual name, but replaces the functional name).
Two interesting things - they are using a trademark symbol on PalmFrozz so
I assume they are in the process of registering it, and it only works on
Windows CE devices - so their web site has things like "PalmFrozz for the
Palm-sized PC", and "Links to the 10 best Windows CE sites" - The
PalmComputing(tm) Platform isn't visible anywhere on that site.
Just to see, I went to CEMonster and searched on "Palm"... At least 6
apps are using this type of naming convention.
I don't know how many WinCE apps are out there that use "Palm", but a few
weeks ago I got a letter stating that Palm will be cracking down on Palm
Developers using Palm since it is 3Com's trademark, tradedress, etc. and
that even saying something like "put a frozz in your palm" would be a
no-no.
I am only bothered since registered developers are an easy target - Palm
already has a list, so can notify every one of us that they are cracking
down and already have information on our app names. So I am bothered that
many WinCE applications named Palm-something are out there which do not
even run on a PalmComputing platform.
Will 3Com go after their supporters or competitors first?
