It would be my guess that it is precisely because of this kind of trademark
confusion that percipitated 3Com's letter.  Since 3Com can't show favoritism
in protecting its intellectual property, it had to inform everyone.

Having said that, I'd be surprised to see 3Com go after its supporters
first.  I would bet that next year your search on "Palm" on CEMonster will
show even less hits!
