I have both books. I haven't found the SAMs book to be too useful. It
attempts to cover every possible way to create a program for the Palm, ie
Satellite forms, Pendragon, etc. I found the chapter on writing an app
from scratch to be to high level. It didn't give me any more information
from the coding from scratch perspective that the Developers Guide didn't
already have in it.
The Developers Guide itself tries to cram a lot of information into one
short book. I know that it could have been done better, but then again,
what's out there that couldn't have been. If you are only going to get one
book, I would recommend the Developers Guide. It should give you the most
information to at least go and write a palm app that will actually do
something.
Just my personal opinion.
