Actually I have to disagree what what you are seeing
as the thrust of this particular argument.  It is less
"make the user pay" vs. "trust the user" as much as "if
you are going to try to enforce it, what is the best way"
and the two sides being "go ahead and leave trash behind
just for the convenience of your shareware" vs. "be a
good citizen and clean up completely when uninstalled".

I hope my objective and unbiased description of the two
approaches under discussion clarifies the issue for you ;-)
