Good Morning.
I am having a debate with a customer about what processor runs in the
III and IIIx.
This website indicates they use the same processor:
http://www.palm.com/devzone/tools/cw/cw_palm_r6_datasheet.pdf
I thought this was true:
The Palm IIIx, V and VII have, at their core, a Motorola MC68EZ328
Dragonball EZ, the updated version of the original MC68328 Dragonball
that powered all of the earlier Palms and Pilots.
Where I found the specs. on the different processors;
http://www.mot.com/SPS/WIRELESS/products/index.html
The real reason this debate started was due to some performance
testing. The application running on a Palm III took 14 minutes to do
something. Running the same prc on a IIIx took 10 minutes.
Can someone think of what might account for the different speeds?
The best information I could find:
MC68328 DragonBall 2.7 MIPS Performance At 16.67-MHz Processor Clock
MC68EZ328: DragonBall 2.7 MIPS Performance at 16.58 MHz processor
clock
I can't imagine the speed differences are only related to the clock
speed of the processor. Were there some significant performance
boosts in the OS that each of the different Palms run?
Comments appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
