You have to have something kick it into
greyscale mode.
There is a hack called PalmTheme that lets
you alter the appearance of standard controls
(buttons, checkboxes) that also happens to
kick the Palm into greyscale mode. See if
that does it for you.
I haven't succeeded in creating a cicn that
is actually using more than 2 colors, so I
can't test this. But if you've got a 4 color
icon, see if PalmTheme kicks things into
gear for you.
