Gray scale Palm OS support

Does anyone know when exactly, ie. the Palm OS version, when gray scale was
supported by the OS, ie. where all the native controls could handle gray
scale. AND, which PalmPilot models does that correspond to (out of the box,
without any OS upgrades)? ie. Palm III, Palm IIIx , ... ?
