The SPT1740 device is burned with a slightly-modified PalmOS 3.0 ROM -- it
has a newer serial manager than comes in stock PalmOS 3.0, and a few other
tweaks here and there that Palm/3Com did at Symbol's request (and that
Symbol did at Palm's request, come to think of it).
I haven't heard if Symbol has rebuilt the network drivers and other stuff
against newer versions of the OS or not. You can't just flash a new version
of the OS into your 1740 device, unfortunately, so I think it's up to Symbol
to rebuild against newer OS code.
