No, the Symbol devices run a custom version of the Palm OS specifically built for
their hardware. Re-flashing any licensee device with a ROM image not specifically
targeted for that hardware will result in a very expensive paperweight, and in some
cases, may permanently damage the hardware. The spt1500 series run Palm OS 3.0.2(r3)
while the spt1700 series run Palm OS 3.2.0(r3). Apologies to the dyslexic among you...
honest, it's purely coincidental! :oP

Although I can make no announcements at this time, we continue to work with all our
licensees on bringing newer versions of the Palm OS to their custom hardware
configurations. But please keep in mind, in the same way licensees are free to use
non-upgrade-able masked ROM in their products, licensees also decide whether or not to
provide system software upgrades for their products. The good news is, system software
upgrades are expected to become much easier in the very near future, for both Palm and
our licensees, for all products based on Palm OS 3.5 and later. Stay tuned for new
product developments!
