mobitex and CDPD are not even on the same playing field, let alone
compatible. Differnet physics, different standards.  only major Mobitex
provider in US is Bell SOuth ( used to be ram mobile joint venture)  CDPD
uses exisitng celluar infrstructure (digital), Mobitex is Bell SOuth only
and limited to metro areas.  The twain will never meet...

As far as I know they're two different animals.

Only the Palm VII uses mobitex.  For the Palm VII, all you need to do is
check
their coverage map at http://www.palm.net/coverage/index.html for your area.
You don't have to deal with an ISP or anything other than Palm.

If you've got a minstel modem, you want to ask about CDPD service.  CDPD
(as I understand it) rides on top of conventional cellular phone networks.
Lots
of people offer CDPD service.
