Okay there is only so much you can do with the Palmpix and the supplied
setup, so I'm thinking about hacking it and getting it to work from a PC, RIM
pager, etc etc.

I popped it open and I see what it is using:

Atmel AT90S8515 8-bit AVR Microcontroller; this has a UART, 8K flash, and a
little chunk of EEPROM where they store the program.

It also has a big Altera FLEX gate array on it that does bunches of junk I'm
sure. The RAM is a M11B416256 which I suppose is 256K but I haven't looked
up the part.

Here is what I did to start hacking; I bought "The Bridge" ($14.95) from
Palmgear and I soldered a DB9 connector on it so that I can now plug the
Palmpix into a PC. I run POSE with palmpix.prc and viola it works! Now I
enable serial logging and I get bunches of stuff to sift through.

The only part not working though is the full-size picture download. The
preview works fine but it is quite a bit slower than an actual device so I am
guessing that they have some timeouts in palmpix.prc that prevent a full-size
download from happening; it gives a "Memory allocation error." I'll have to
try running POSE on a faster box sometime. Actually the way I hooked the DB9
up is through a little cable and so I could probably just mate a Palm and
Palmpix (via my modified Bridge) along with my cable hooked up and snoop the
live traffic if necessary -- might need some diodes for that though, or just
temporarily disconnect TXD RTS DTR with a breakout box.

The Bridge is actually a pretty nifty hacker tool. In case you are
wondering, the Palmpix only uses TXD RXD RTS CTS GND. I was worried that it
would use +3.3 (pin 2) like the Minstrel III (damn them), but whew it doesn't.

BTW, I've been registered in the Kodak Developer's program for six months but
so far it has been totally useless. They never have answered my queries.. I
just don't get it.
