Actually, I kind of like the rumors. There will inevitably come a day
when either Palm has gone completely to licensing out the Palm OS,
or they'll have to compete against someone, and that someone on the
low end will probably be Handspring (although, they're really going to
have to do more than offer their machine in bright colors...how about
adding a modem card or wireless connectivity(aka Palm VII)? You know
how the kids are with the internet...). I have money invested (really,
I own stock) in Palm, and I like to be assured that they've got a solid
direction and that they're going to stick to it.
But aside from the cheap color Palms, what no one's noticing past
the bright colors is the other "rumor". A Palm VII with 8 megs of
RAM would be definitely nice...developers would have much more room
to develop web applications, and users would be much happier as a
result. The Palm VII is probably the most intriguing of the entire
Palm series...and any improvements should be well welcomed, IMHO.
