Are you positive the device connected properly and/or the communications
geometry is set correctly.  I've been using the Palm with serial hardware
for several years and never had nor heard of such a communications
problem/rumor.  Which model Palm are your using?  (BTW, you can disable the
transmit by just not connecting the receive line or visa-versa)
