Generally, there are four classes of Palm devices out now WRT cradles.

Pilot 1000/5000; PalmPilot Personal/Professional

Palm III/IIIe/IIIx/IIIxe/IIIc/VII/VIIx

Palm m100/m105

Palm V/Vx

The first three groups have the same electrical connector but different
plastics. A III-class device can use a PalmPilot cradle, but not
vice-versa. The m100/m105 can use a PalmPilot or III class Hotsync cable,
but they won't fit into the cradle. The IIIc's cradle is slightly different
to allow charging of the IIIc's battery -- you can sync a IIIc in a
non-charging cradle, but you probably shouldn't put a non-IIIc into a IIIc
cradle.

The Palm V and Vx have a different design with incompatible connectors.

The new universal connector should be introduced soon with whatever model
Palm announces next.
