cradle issue

Hello all,
      I would like to know whether a cradle for a particular Palm handheld
could be used with the rest of Palm handhelds. For example palm 3xe cradle
with the rest of palm handhelds. If not, please let me know the reason
behind it (don't they have the same pinout structure !!! or is it
different).
