No, this is not an "Urgent!!! What time is it?" post, since I swear, I have
been doing a lot of research and very happily found the FAQs. Bad timing for
me with the KB down, though.

I am a VB developer. I have a client who is ready to get PDA's for his field
technicians. (I gave him a PalmVx for x-mas and he's turned into a true
believer!) I am exploring both the PalmOS route and the Windows CE route.

Currently the client is thinking that he just wants the techs to have a
handful of data entry forms for simple recording of infomration. Then we
will synch that up to their in-house databases. I am already thinking that
we might want to aim for a web-based upload so these guys don't have to
drive back to the office just to upload their data.

We are not dealing with a group of technicians who already are carrying
around Palm Pilots, etc for personal reasons, so we really do have the
flexibility of going either way.

I believe that if I go the Windows CE route - I'll just use the MS CE
development tools. If I go PalmOS - I'd probably end up using AppForge. The
PDA end of this will not require huge databases. They just would need a
current list of clients and projects with not a lot of other data. So the
limitations I have read about with AppForge may not be an issue here.

This is such a new direction for me that it's difficult to make that first
decision. I'm guessing that I will have the same learning curve whichever
way I go, so that's a non-issue. But this client is depending on me to make
the "right" choice - one that will be a good solution for looking to the
future.

I try , when I can , to do SOMETHING non-Microsoft, since I'm so locked into
MS for almost everything I do.

My guess is that many of you have already gone through this decision making
process (and obviously chosen PalmOS) - and I wanted to find out how you
chose Palm vs. WIndowsCE.

I've already started downloading tools - emulator, skins, Appforge demo.
(now this is loads of fun with my 28.8 connection!)

Thanks very very much.
