Check out wirelesswired.com for ability to have your palm pilot interacting 
with the Enterprise Java Bean (or just bean) on the back-end
for database access. I think in your case, it would help speeding 
up your development efforts by not having to deal with the communication 

detail.

Also, the commUNION software package works well with other desktop 
languages such as DELPHI, Visual Basic, LINUX, PocketPC as well.
If you want to access back-end data from the palm pilot, this tool 
will definitely reduces the time.
