Issues with large PDB files

I am trying to download a large (1.2MB) pdb file to a handheld. It is taking
well over an hour. It is quicker if I just write the records to a blank
database through a conduit (40 minutes)
Has anyone else came across this problem downloading large files??
Is there anything I can do to reduce this time, ie segmenting etc?
