Does that mean that there's some chance it will get fixed before the final
release? Probably too much to hope for, at this late date, for a bug that's
been around for so long.

Good point. I guess I didn't follow up on it because, finding that someone
had already pointed out in this forum that the bug exists in the MemoPad, I
just assumed that it was already known to Palm.
