Howdy --
Bought the Portable Keyboard a couple months ago, and believe I have
noted two bugs in the 1.2 keyboard driver. Can't find any mention of
either of these in this forum's archive going back a year, was wondering
if anyone else is seeing either of these behaviors.
(1) Pressed-key autorepetition stops after the sixteenth repetition.
That is, I press a key on the keyboard (any key recognized by the driver
as a potentially
repeating key), I hold it down to initiate the repeating action, I
continue to hold it down while the repeating action takes place, but
even if I keep holding it down, the repeating action stops after the
sixteenth repetition. For example, if I press and hold down the "J"
key, it will only give me 16 j's even if I keep the "J" key held down
past the point when the 16th "j" has shown up on the screen. Similarly,
if I press and hold the down-arrow key, it will only go down 16 lines
(in a long memo, for example) even if I keep the down-arrow key held
down past the point when the cursor has gone down to the 16th line.
The proper behavior should be that the key that's held down is repeated
indefinitely until the key is released.
(2) Incorrect deselection of a block of selected text in a specific
situation. Try this: pull up a memo, activate the cursor anywhere in
the memo (except the very end), hold down the Shift key, and start
hitting the right-arrow key to highlight (select) a block of text. Now,
pretend you said "Oops, I didn't mean to go that far" and try to hit the
left-arrow key to decrease the block of selected text by one character.
Boom. Did the block decrease in size by one character? Nope, sure
didn't. Instead, the entire block of selected text suddenly got
deselected.
Try it the other way. Activate the cursor anywhere in the memo (except
the very beginning), then hold down the Shift key, and start hitting the
left-arrow key to select a block of text prior to the cursor point. OK,
now pretend you went too far and try to hit the right-arrow key to
decrease the selected block by a character. Aha! That works fine. But
when selecting text in a forward direction and *then* attempting to
deselect in the backward direction, that's where the driver shows its
bugginess by deselecting the entire block of text.
Obviously, it should work as well for selecting text in the forward
direction as it does in the backward direction.
Can't find any driver on Palm's site more recent than the version 1.2
that came with the Portable Keyboard. Anybody know of any
fixes/workarounds?
