This is described in the developer guide for the keyboard available from
www.thinkoutside.com, IIRC. It also prevents oddness with the driver
inserting characters forever if you disconnect your keyboard while a key
is pressed.

I wonder if these are general field bugs, rather than keyboard driver
bugs -- people have observed problems on the debug ROMs with moving the
cursor using the movement strokes, especially moving from a long line up
to a short line. Does it happen using graffiti too?
