most, but not all Palm devices are Flashable, in that the OS is held in
Flash ram and as such can be replaced.  A good example of this is the free
OS upgrade provided by Palm to go from OS 3.1 to OS 3.3.  A newer one
recently got released upgrading to OS 3.5, but there was a charge for this.

However, these are generally only applicable to Palm devices, i.e. III,
IIIx, V, etc. and not useable on partner devices like Handsprings Visors, as
this hardware has support for their specific features.  Also some Palm
devices, such as IIIe CANNOT be upgraded, I assume that was part of the
reason why they were cheap.

I don't know the specifics of how flashing works, maybe someone else can
explain it...?
