Why is that sad? Handera is a Palm licensee, using the PalmOS.
What you have said is like saying "Microsoft has been ignoring
(something), it's sad to see Compaq come up with the first ..."
Remember, everyone using the PalmOS platform is playing on
the same side of the PalmOS/WinCE divide. Handera, Handspring,
Palm or Sony ... it doesn't really matter who makes what improvement
(although it would help if some of them adopted inovations made
first by the others).

In theory, this is the last connector change ... isn't the new one supposed
to be the "universal" connector? Otoh, that doesn't help now, but only
as we progress into the future ... (unless they change it again).
As for incompatibility ... is Journada compatible w/ iPaq? I don't
think so ... not just hardware, but software as well.
Dead heat on compatibility between different product lines. Perhaps
even the edge to Palm since the OS itself has remained pretty well
compatible, which can not be said of successive generations of the
WinCE (now PocketPC) platform.

I both hope for, and dread, the integration of BeOS technology
into the PalmOS. I hope for it since I believe the BeOS is a
great small OS ... but I fear it because it is likely to introduce
software incompatibilities that Palm has so far avoided.
