Subject: RE: Creator ID and stuff
Hi Gavin
You probably refer to DmFindDatabase, that
doesn't require creator ID.
Do you really want me to be honest ?
I think is just a Palm design fault...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude.
Let me explain what I actually meant.
All popular OS-s have directories or folders.
You are de-facto required to have a separate
folder for your app, ignoring rubbish bins
like Windows/System or WinNT/System32 which
is MS design fault - now with regsrv32
it has become more ordered.
Original Palm system (it might change soon)
doesn't have folders, but has creator IDs,
which (according to my model) do the same
thing.
You must mark your app to avoid confusion,
but you are free to choose any name, without
appending or prepending it with anything
ugly, like creatorID in the nearest future
(remember Max's concern).
I am not going to discuss intellectual freedom
or Declaration of Human Rights, but even
pedantic MS does not impose any restrictions
on file names (though potential DLL/OCX
clash is obvious), why Palm should ?
By refering to Palm design fault, I meant
the Palm should allow dupplication of DB names
with different creator IDs in which case
DmFindDatabase without creatorID wouldn't
make sense.
Michael
