I've got the first edition, and it's my favorite PalmOS programming
book, bar none. Although I've flipped through the second edition in the
bookstore and saw a few bits and pieces of new stuff (e.g. there's a
second on the new Alert Manager) I didn't look for the OS 5 APIs, so
will have to defer to others on your specific question.
One thing I particularly like in the first edition is the inclusion of
the PalmOS APIs in a Quick Reference appendix. I can actually look up
what I need faster using this than using the online docs. Sadly, this
was dropped in the second edition, perhaps to save space since it
appears as large as the first edition, and stuff was certainly added.
Even with this omission, IMHO this is still the best of the PalmOS books
currently available....
