I have looked at the second edition and own the first edition. So my
comments mostly refer to the first edition. I will probably buy the second
edition sometime.

The second edition was not out when I needed to start Palm programming. I
checked-out several other books from my public library and "Palm OS
Programming Bible" (1st Ed.) looked by far the best for my purposes.
Notable exception - coverage on IR beaming is sparse. Also note that I am
coding for the OS 3.0 and up market so I have avoided OS 5-only APIs.

Many of the questions folks ask on this list are answered in this
book.

Personally, I despise the current crop of "bloated books" in which the value
to
the reader (as regarded by the publisher) seems to be directly proportional
to number of pages. I much prefer concise, focused writing. (Just tell me
what I need to know once, please don't repeat it several times to bloat your
book, thank you very much.) Hence I was suspicious of "Palm OS Programming
Bible" due to its size. I was pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended.

Hope this helps.
