At the connection speeds I get, that'd take about a week to download :-) > Keep in mind that systems like VS.NET are also based on command line > tools and (n)make. I do know that. I've even called csc.exe from the command line (it doesn't require make, though). That's missing my point. This stuff needs to be smooth to install and use. Making people learn cygwin first is not a good plan. I know there is at least one IDE coming (Eclipse), so that's fine. I don't even care if cygwin is actually installed behind the scenes. I just want to be able to do everything without having to learn it. I couldn't care less if some people want to use it. If they prefer that way of working that's fine. It **is** going to be a stumbling block to greater acceptance of the Palm tools if everyone is **forced** to work that way, even part of the time. > Falch.net did the same thing in the Palm world for many years with Developer Studio. I know. And as I said earlier, I had to use Borland's C++BuilderX in the same way. It was a PITA to install the Palm stuff though. Cf a PocketStudio install, which takes a couple of minutes. OK, there's some things it can't do, but you should be aiming at that level of ease of use. > I know all about your boss. Actually you don't (although you may have met him in real life). He's a very clued up and technical guy. A lot of other very clued up and technical guys (and girls) have issues with PalmOS dev tools. I try fighting my corner, but it's hard. A lot of people here are very good at what they do, and provide a lot of help to the rest of us. However, there are also a lot of blinkers on.
