And all of the above works out of the box with VMware. It isn't
cheap, but for the quality and speed I get with it, and the ability to run
Solaris, Unix, Linux, and Windows inside the same virtual machine, all on
the same laptop for "roadshows", it makes a huge difference.
The only outlay is the cost for the license, and the cost for a
larger disk drive to hold the images (and of course, the Windows licenses
for the guest OS' running inside the VM, but one of them came with my
laptop, and was quickly replaced with Linux, so I recycled that license
back into a VMware instance).
I can still hope and wish that wine will improve, and that these
tools from the PDSG will improve to the point where they are handled
negligibly the same by VMware, "real" Windows, or wine. We'll get there.
It'll just take some time.
