Hi,
I have programs on my palm that run in the background. There must be a way of doing it surely, no?
I just pointed you to two different methods to allow some execution when other applications are active -- alarms and idle time notifications. There is also the sound callback system in Palm OS 5, which is used by audio players with background support.
Steve's comments about the Kadak kernel are correct for Palm OS 4.x and older. Palm OS 5 is based on a different kernel, but it still doesn't expose thread/process functionality to programs. Palm OS Cobalt is the first version of the OS that really provides this functionality to developers.
