Can mp3 or vorbis be played as well? Although they're mentioned in the docs, it seems that only PCM is supported right now. I wonder how mp3s are played by, say, RealPlayer. Does it decode mp3 and converts it into PCM somehow?
Yes. All of the applications like RealPlayer, AeroPlayer, or Pocket Tunes that play MP3 files have their own MP3 decoder code that converts the MP3 data to in-memory PCM waveforms for playback.
