Sounds like you (plural) need a software Co-Op site. A couple of the larger developers need to get together and start it. It could run on a fixed % margin (say something slightly above the operating costs) and pay back developers for profits over and above the charter % (as well as their cut for the sale). Some minor marketing plus a request that contributing developers promote the Co-Op on their sites as well as in their software (or documentation) could help promote it. I nominate Aaron to be the chair of the new independent software manf Co-Op. If orange growers can do it, why not programmers?
I must admit for a minute I thought Aaron was talking about protecting against static. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Aaron Ardiri" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Palm Developer Forum" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, August 14, 2004 11:57 AM Subject: ESD:: is it time to fight back > *cross posting to PEF as well* > > i have had discussions with a number of developers over the past > year or so and i think it is time we all made a stand and make > ourselves heard specifically in the area of ESD sites. > > http://www.esd-union.com > > there is nothing on that site except facts and figures; the issue > is that they have been hidden from the general public. why dont > developers tell their customers how much they are being ripped off? > > its bound to bring a heated discussion - but, why not! this is > a discussion forum after all; i think users should definately know > the reality and costs that sit behind ESD sites. > > i think this will be a serious discussion at palmsource :) > someone has to make a stand somewhere - its already at 40% and > it looks like the more dominant these big players get - the > worse it is going to be. > > how high can it go? > > --- > Aaron Ardiri > PalmOS Certified Developer > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > http://www.mobilewizardry.com/members/aaron_ardiri.php > > > -- > For information on using the Palm Developer Forums, or to unsubscribe, please see http://www.palmos.com/dev/support/forums/ -- For information on using the Palm Developer Forums, or to unsubscribe, please see http://www.palmos.com/dev/support/forums/
