I would guess that this is what is happening: the conduits are building database records using a format that the newer device understands, but the older device does not.
When the applications receive the end-of-sync launch code, they try to sort and one of them crashes because of the data format. To work around this: you could go to HotSync prefs and disable one of the conduits (for example, Addresses) and try to do sync. When you crash, repeat with a different conduit disabled, etc, eventually you determine the one that crashes. Then if you can live without that app's data, fine, you're done. Another solution would be to export all data to csv (I think PalmDesktop allows that), reinstall the older PalmDesktop, import from said .csv, and sync. I've always wondered how Palm OS handled the changes in data format on the device side; apparently it doesn't? Or did I miss something?
