If you are debugging the simulator should stop before the crash then if
you go one step further it will crash

PS: I agree in general that the simulators are really a step down
compare to pose but they are not as bad as that
PPS: which debugger are you using
I am having no end of problems with the simulators.
I did find that if I am debugging, then the simulator just crashes,
but if I run the same code without using the debugger, I get an error
message just before the simulator crashes. Not much help as I cannot
debug my code...
