SIR on new Palm devices

Hi,

I'm getting some problems when dealing with SIR on new Palm OS devices: Zire 22, Treo 650. 
When I open the SIR port, my program freezes. This does not happens if i open the IRCOMM 
port. Opening SIR on Tungsten T does not freeze the program.

Since IRCOMM works on top of SIR, how can this be possible?
