An entire division? Not a good sign for those of us who look for
"American-made" labels.

This is awful, and I speak from past experience. Currently I work
for a manufacturing company whose feedstock is derived from petroleum,
so every fluctuation in the per-barrel price sends frissons of terror
throughout the workforce, from entrenched upper management to most
recent factory floor labor hires. I've made a point of outworking
younger co-workers (I'm 56) and unlike some of them I haven't been
laid off yet...

Others mention seeking work in another division of the same company
but Snap-On's employment webpage isn't very encouraging; they're even
showing openings for managers!

Considered working for yourself? Some of the happiest, most secure
people I know are "consultants" who live from contract to contract
instead of paycheck to paycheck.

I wish you much luck, Mike. The economy will likely get a bit worse
before it gets a lot better, but I don't see a total crash coming any
time soon. Just keep getting up in the morning and pounding those
bricks. ;>)
