I also know from recent history, that some folks learned that the day of massively expensive huge ships ended at the Falklands war when it dawned on folks that a piddly little million dollar missile could do in a ship costing hundreds of millions--with pretty much no danger to the launcher. Not that old school Navy types would ever admit it!
