It's not so much that the toothache goes away, but after a few you no longer 
have the ability to care about it. <G>

Seriously, though, I did do this once.  A customer of mine had brought me a 
bottle of tequila as a gift, and a week later I had a raging abcess in one 
of my wisdon teeth.  The dentist put me on anti-biotics for a week before he 
would pull it, and then gave me Vicodin for the pain.  Since Vicodin knocks 
me out cold and, at the time, I'd developed a pretty good tolerance for 
alcohol, I chose the shots.  My boss looked at me funny, but it got me thru 
the week.  Used half a bottle of good blue agave...

True story.
