I've never even heard of him. 20 years ago I read Philip Jose Farmer's "World of Tiers" series, but found it a slow read. I've also read some of Heinlein's books, Asimov's "I, Robot", and a couple of collections of sci-fi short stories, several of which were great reads.
Most of my reading nowadays is historical non-fiction, but I also read as much Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett as I can find, too. I'm also a fan of Sue Grafton's alphabet series.
