Hello to all laid off, terminated, fired and otherwise made redundant
members,

I have probably been fired more times than all of you put together. I
finally made a career of it by moving to Chicago and registering with
all the job shops I could find. One problem was that temporaries are
the first to go in a down economy and the last to be recalled when it
recovers.
One thing you have going for you is the ability to design and build
card stock display models that might be easier to sell if they were
turned into working models. James Hairston's fat little monitor- or
somebody's fat ironclad- could be converted into a working model by a
bit of waterproofing and the addition of something to make it go. The
cheapest something would be an engine made from a piece of brass or
copper tubing. Go to http://tinyurl.com/4s9hmx for video showing
construction and operation of a rotating steam candle similar to the
engines of pop-pop boats that were some of the favorite toys for small
boys before WW2 when I was a kid. A more popular something might be
concocted from LEGO Power Functions Components at http://tinyurl.com/davcgr
to provide propulsion under remote control for models with wheels, or
paddle wheels.
Go to The Great LEGO Boat Race at http://tinyurl.com/dapdo8 for
evidence that LEGO stuff is actually fairly waterproof!

Best wishes, Frank McNeill
