It's an HP 17". Heavy monster, but works well for my wife when we travel as
she's going to school online. Want to get it fixed for her, rather than
replace it.

Paul, is it a Toshiba, by any chance? The older ones, at
least, gained some notoriety for breakage of their power
input connectors. And I suppose that's a possibility for
any machine, Toshiba or not. I don't know if that really
helps you or not, but it's something to try to check.
