Subject: Re: [Papermodels II 42405] External harddisk.
I have heard from several people that CD's are better for long term storing
than DVD's.
Maybe because CD's have the information stored in a less compact way than
DVD's.
Or maybe bacause of the way they are constructed (that is, the chemicals
used, f.i.).
My old CD's still work, too. Since the very first day I started burning
CD's - and later DVD's -
I ALWAYS write the date of writing on them. Not necessarily the day, but I
do always
put down the month and year on the CD.
Example: June '09
Should a CD or DVD start causing trouble, I know to check the older ones,
too. And to keep
an eye on the ones burned shortly after the faulty one.
Erik.
Thank goodness I saved all the copied CDs which date back to 2002 and still
operate PERFECTLY.
Of course I just smile and walk away when I hear guys screaming about their
external hard drives failing.
"Welcome to the Boat."
Good Luck,
Bob Penikas
