Okay,

There are always several considerations about either alternative.

Generally, cloud services are not trustworthy, but personally I think,
whoever puts THAT kind of important stuff in the cloud should at least
use encryption. (I use Truecrypt to store important files, even on my
local computer, netbook and external drives/USB Sticks - just because
things could get stolen - and then it's the same problem - online or
offline...)

I recently got in a situation where I had to leave loads of equipment
(plus our company office PC) behind due to an evacuation (Libya) and I
was really happy that I had an online sync between the Office PC and
the cloud available. That at least could get me the important files
and let me do the important stuff (like accounting and timesheets).

In my humble opinion, it's best to use a combination of online and
offline backup.
The cloud IS a great help when used carefully.

Online storage: encrypted with Truecrypt.
Offline external storage: also encrypted with Truecrypt
Computer: Bitlocker if available otherwise also Truecrypt

People think that when they have offline backups of their stuff, they
are safe - but what if the external storage gets lost or stolen? Then
again, it's possible to access all important data.

I don't want to attack anyone, just point out the risks and benefits.
Personally, I am using a combination of cloud services (SkyDrive -
with Gladinet cloud Desk, Sugarsync with the Desktop and mobile
clients, Dropbox with the Desktop and mobile clients, Evernote,
Simplenote, Wunderlist and a few others) - just everything important
gets encrypted with fairly secure passwords.
