I use refill kits from Walgreens. They can be messy sometimes, but I can
refill the cartridges several times. The kits last about a year, and I
have to buy cartridges about twice a year because they short out after
being refilled a while. The refill kits cost $34, and the cartridges cost
$34. I can live with stained hands for the money I save.
I have an HP, and most of the 3rd party cartridges I've found work great
but are the same price or higher than the brand name. My old HP cost $70
for brand name cartridges and $50 for 3rd party. That's when I first
discovered refill kits.

My PIXMA MX870 has been working great. Canon tries to tell me I'm out
of ink and asks if I'd like to shop Canon for more. Don't believe
Canon. There is still loads of ink in those "empty" cartridges. Canon
will replace the ink for about $55.00. This company will replace the
ink for $5.00

The 3rd party ink works great. Some people don't like it because you
get a little ink on you when you remove the cap. LOL I guess they
don't want stained cuticles. It's no wonder the printer is so cheap.
Canon is soaking people with ink.
