I've got pp working with AS Perl now after downloading the binary.
I think all my questions have been answered. But just in case you're
interested, some extra details:
I use a Cygwin shell, but not Cygwin perl, or Cygwin compilers: R is
built with MinGW and AS Perl. But now I've downloaded the AS Perl
binaries the compiler doesn't matter any more.
I think we won't bother with putting the scripts in the original
directory structure. They all have different names, so flattening them
into script/* works fine.
I'd rather not edit the scripts to work with the packaging, since they
need to work on lots of other platforms, not just Windows. The other
platforms can all assume an available Perl.
People using the packaged scripts will just have to live with any speed
penalty, if there is one. (It's not noticeable so far.)
