Those aren't really MBRs as much as bootloaders who stick themselves
in the MBR space.  There is a series of "standard" MBRs that ship with
Syslinux for example, and there are others from other OSes -- it has
serious advantages in that it keeps multiple OSes from clobbering the
same piece of code.
