I agree that depending upon what field you are in the costs of post graduate degrees may outweigh the benefit. For example for myself, since I am not in research or education, a doctorate degree probably would not add any to my value and may even drop my value since many outside of those specialized fields may be reluctant to hire someone with a doctorate.

I have a BS in CS (I also think that sounds funny to say) and debating a Masters of some type. But I'm not sure if I want to spend the cash for the MS after dropping a ton on the BS. One of my father-in-law's professors said this about the degree chain: BS - self explanatory MS - More of the Same PhD - Piled Higher Deeper I keep wondering about that as I look on the return I have had on the BS for the cost. Perhaps it will open some doors for me later. We shall see. Jason On Thu, Oct 1, 2009 at 9:53 PM, Dan Stadelman <[email protected]> wrote: I also have a CS degree and am working on an MBA. The difference might be that I am not in infosec - but a software developer. Though I am learning a lot about business and enjoying myself, I am also not so sure about it either. It seems like a lot of the things are busy work BUT I know this is the only way, besides internal promotion, that you will be able to get to a management decision. I really would like to manage, because I think I could make the biggest difference in the organization in such a role.
