Prisoners on cleaning mood. They braved the winter cold weather to
change the ‘I don’t care attitude of littering’.
Prison officials of Baviaanspoort near Tshwane moved out of their
comfortable offices leaving their daily administration work to embark
on cleaning campaign involving prisoners.
The campaign was set to promote the healthy living environment and
cleanliness of correctional services facilities.
However, cleaning campaign started some years ago popularly known as
Letsema ‘Mbombela’.
The cleaning campaign was also to remind parolees and probationers
that free community service is also part of their sentence imposed to
them by court of law and form part of offender rehabilitation path and
correction sentence plan.
“We are here to lead by example and not always complain that our
terrain is dirty but to show everybody that cleanliness is next to
godliness”.
However, it was not clear how often will mass cleaning campaigns be seen again.
Prison officials encouraged prison warder and prisoners to always keep
their surrounding clean at all times. “Let us keep our environment
clean. To help prevent environmental pollution and promote land care”.
Jail guards urged.
Please let me know if you want pictures/photos taken during the
cleaning campaign. I will send/e-mail them to you.

Warm Regards
