MANDELA DEATH: We remember his crimes against our class!
The TV is full of the sycophantic outpouring of right-wing and pseudo left-wing commentators and politicians about the long overdue death of Nelson Mandela. The establishment has rallied to praise him. The British Queen and other imperialist forces have sent personal messages of condolences to the Mandela family. The news is full of tribute portraying Mandela as some kind of champion of freedom and liberty. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. He was a champion - champion of capitalism, a symbol of betrayal of the struggle for national liberation, of course a hero of settle colonial forces and a darling of the ruling elite/class. His death is now being used to 'try' making us forgets the early '1990' counter revolution and paint it as victory. Of course, it was victory! Victory for whom? Victory for those who created the 'Mandela brand', he is admired by representatives of exploitative class, the girls and boys of the ruling class, as a fervent defender of settler colonialist capitalist interests, and existing social order. For us, Mandela represented and epitomised elitist privilege, neo-Apartheid and inequality of class society. *Apartheid defeated by the people and saved by Mandela: * The struggle for national liberation dates back centuries, lest we forget battles fought by African warriors who consistently resisted colonial invasion and land robbery. Hintsa, Nyabela, Sekhukhune and others led armies of brave men and women in battles against colonial thieves. Lest we forget the Bhambatha rebellion! None of the landmark historic episodes against Apartheid were led by Mandela. He denounced the 'Anti-Pass law' campaign that led to Sharpeville/Langa massacre and even attempted to disorganize it. He re-appeared later banning his pass alone not in a mass action. He got arrested and tried in Rivonia were he made the famous 'I fought black domination speech' (Ironically he waited 20 years before attempting it). Spent years in jail like any other fighter of the time! Was in jail and took no part in organizing '1976 Youth uprising'. Was in jail couldn't organize 1980s protests across all townships in the country. These prove that Apartheid was fought and defeated by masses that rallied during 'March 1960', 'Youth of '76 and sustained until '80s. Realizing that Apartheid had no future settler colonialists had to save their interests and they needed a 'hero'. Mandela became their man. *Creation of Personality Cult and role of capitalist media and propaganda machinery: * It was the people not 'Mandela' who conducted the struggle. It is not surprising though to see how global media and opportunist bourgeois politicians from Blair through to Obama are now scrambling to cement the personality cult they created around the man since he was hand-picked to save interests of settler colonial capitalism. As revolutionary Socialist, such cults are a long way from Socialist position that 'masses make the history'. Typical, cults have been promoted to gain mass support for policies-mostly incorrect- that might not be forthcoming due to lack political development or disagreement. As such personality cults are a sign of weakness, not strength. The more gushing attempt at cult formation the more likely it is that the attempt seeks to divert the attention of poor masses from the failure of the capitalist system. The Apartheid regime that has collapsed from sustained pressure from rolling masses in township, need 'hero' to save it and protect it interests. Bourgeois media and propaganda were used create an 'Icon'. Distortions and fabrications were order of the day. Mandela the brand was born. *Mandela, early '90s counterrevolution and birth of neo-colonialism:* Having created uMgijimi (a Zombie), the ruling class had to put it to use. Mgijimi was used as the 'opium of the masses' to calm them down and prevent revolutionary onslaught. It was at this moment the he fought against emergence of 'black domination'. He successfully yet tragically led a transition from Apartheid to neo-Apartheid. He used assistance from Old friend and Communist quack Slovo who produced “Sunset clause”, “Colonialism of a Special Type” and they enacted “Protection of Property clause” into the Constitution of the country. Introduced neo-liberal economic system privatized state enterprises and the country achieved accolade of most unequal society on earth. Better Life for all remained better life for the ruling elite. *Mandela is dead: struggle against capitalism continues!* No doubt in the few days right wingers and press will be spouting on and on about what great person he was, etc. We say the struggle continues. We don't mourn his death. His actions destroyed the lives of masses of the poor. We call on the poor to demand: · The arrest of all senior police officials who ordered killing of masses at Marikana. · Ownership of all farms, Mines and Banks. · The arrest of all Apartheid operatives. Mandela must die and struggle against capitalism must continue! Aluta Continua! Vusi Oldman Mahlangu Mobile: +27725001455. e-mail: [email protected] Twitter: @Marxist_Oldman 29 Boy Louw Street.
