Greetings, Listers -- My name is George, and I am new to this list, and just as new to audio on the computer in general. Admittedly, I know absolutely nothing about this stuff, other than I want to learn as much as possible, as quickly as possible, to get up to speed, and to take advantage of the CDR and CDRW drives (one of which plays DVDs), in my Dell computer, both of which I know nothing about.
I don't know about the visual status of the majority of listers on this list, but I am blind, if that matters, which, I suspect, it may. As a result, I am using Jaws on my computer. Question 1: What software should I be looking for (preferably free at first), in order to play whatever types of music that are available for computers. I want to be able to play everything, and convert stuff from one type to another, even though I don't even know what the heck the various types of files are yet! Question 2: Can a midi (.mid) file be played on a normal CD player, like the one in my living room or car, and which are not connected to a computer? I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions, but I think these two will suffice for now. And I'm equally sure that I'll learn a lot, just reading your messages on the list, as time goes along. Thanks for any assistance any of you can provide! -- George Keep up-to-date with the latest news and goings-on in the blindness and visually-impaired communities.
